Date: 10 November 2009 Time: 6pm (please do NOT be late, no buffer time) Venue: City Vibe (near Clementi MRT) Ramen Ten/Shin Tokyo Meeting place: SP FC5
We will be going to Ramen Ten/Shin Tokyo to celebrate our 3rd birthday. Please confirm your attendance with Sheng Yang by this sunday, 8 November 2009, not later than 12 PM because we need to make reservations.
Ramen Ten/Shin Tokyo serves many different types of ramen as well as 99cents sushi.
PS: Please take note that you have to pay for your own expenses at Ramen Ten/Shin Tokyo.
Date: 5th November (Thursday) Time: 11am- 5pm Venue: T19 (Our booth is outside the CASS letterboxes, Level 2)
DMIT,SB and CASS will be having an event entitled "One World Day" tomorrow. Some of us from SPJCC will be involved at the Yokoso! Japan booth where you can play Kingyo Tsukui (no fishes of course) and stand to win Warabe Kokeshi doll crackers as well as gifts from the Embassy of Japan. Other than that, you can also get free snacks from us. So come down to T19 for some fun ;)
There will be other booths for other regional countries too, and you are also highly encouraged to visit them as well.
PS: Sorry for the late update, we've been busy settling admin matters after our Overdrive! campaign last month...
PPS: This event is not organised by the club, hence no CCA points will be given. But then again, who needs CCA points when you can play Kingyo Tsukui and get snacks for free?
If you think the "Even More Updates" post was ridiculously long, you haven't seen this one yet. It's so long that the whole post has to be split and brought to you in installments. October is just plain crazy with us taking on twice two and a half times as many official and unofficial events as compared to a typical month... So, for the month of October, SPJCC IS ON OVERDRIVE!
What!? There's a part 3? Yes! Part 3 of Overdrive! features 3 more events for October, and informational updates pertaining the language survey and the answer to mystery of the missing Ramune.

Thats not all! Cosplayers are welcomed to show off their works of art!
Isetan is having an Okinawa Fair at their basement supermarket as part of their Japan Fair. Members will be able to sample Okinawan foodstuff. For those who remember, this event is related to the Hokkaido Fair conducted at the same venue earlier in June. We will also be going up to level 3 to see Japan Fair products.
Date: Sunday, 25th October Time: 1.30pm Venue: Takashimaya Basement 2 Meet at: Orchard MRT, 1.30pm (If you are tagging along from the Okinawa fair, there is no need to meet up but may have to wait a while if there are people coming for the Hokkaido Fair only)
We are doing this on the same day as the Isetan Okinawa Fair and Japan Festival, so it's potentially a 3 in 1 event :D
Do remember to sign up for the Okinawa Fair above if you intend to go for both, otherwise we will assume that you are going for this only.
Tsubasa sensei has kindly sponsored an extra book as a prize (The Rules Of Living in Japan) which he hopes members will find useful. Remember, survey ends Nov 1st, and a random draw via random.org will be conducted to find the winner who will win BOTH books. So for those who haven't taken part, do fill in the survey now! ;)
As some of you have noticed, the familiar ramune bottle has vanished off shelves since sometime last year, most notably at Natsumatsuri 09. Probing through google and local forums probably didn't give much clues as to what happened, and here at SPJCC, we have finally solved that mystery.
After an email via a government redirection service, we finally received this reply from AVA:
"I refer to your enquiry to PSD and our tele-conversation of 8 Oct 2009.
We wish to inform you that AVA does not allowed the import and sale of "Ramune drink" or similar bottled carbonated drinks containing glass ball since 2008, due to potential risk of choking if the bottle cap is removed as well as the possibility of glass fragments if the glass ball is chipped."
Not a very nice piece of information to get, but hopefully it puts the matter to rest. Those of you who crave the taste can still resort to it in a metal can version, from Daiso and Yamakawa. On another note, Takashimaya is selling limited edition UCC Eva 2.0 Coffee cans + cooler bag for $20. Do grab them while stocks last...
Hopefully with this, we can finally conclude October's events (a record of 11 official events btw) ^o^
If you think the "Even More Updates" post was ridiculously long, you haven't seen this one yet. It's so long that the whole post has to be split and brought to you in installments. Part 2 of OVERDRIVE! brings with it more interesting events, including the highly anticipated Project Toshokan, Inaba Tea Party, Festival Games Preview, a visit to NUS Japanese Cultural Night 2009 and yet another movie screening. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo) [T1752]
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (時をかける少女, Toki o Kakeru Shōjo?) is a 2006 Japanese animated science fiction film set twenty years after the events in novel Toki o Kakeru Shōjo by Yasutaka Tsutsui.
Synopsis
When 17-year-old Makoto Konno gains the ability to, quite literally, "leap" backwards through time, she immediately sets about improving her grades and preventing personal mishaps. However, she soon realises that changing the past isn't as simple as it seems, and eventually, will have to rely on her new powers to shape the future of herself and her friends.
Helen the Baby Fox (子ぎつねヘレン, Kogitsune Heren?) is a 2006 Japanese film.
Synopsis
Leaving school for the day, seven-year old Taichi finds a baby fox alongside a road in rural Hokkaido. The two bond, and Taichi decides to leave the fox with the police as a lost item. The policeman on duty takes a reluctant Taichi and the fox to the local Yajima Veterinary Clinic. It turns out that Taichi has begun to live with Ko, the vet, and his teenage daughter Misuzu after his free-spirited mother Ritsuko has gone to Micronesia to work as a photographer. Many people have abandoned animals with Ko, and paying customers are few with most of his income coming from frequently boarding a friendly dog that is almost part of the family. Taichi feels abandoned as well, and clashes with Ko when the vet sees the new arrival as a burden, especially after discovering that the fox is deaf and blind. However, Taichi names it Helen after Helen Keller and attempts to bring her back to full health while teaching her about the world as sort of a young Annie Sullivan. Even though Taichi gets her to eat, Helen suffers increasing fits stemming from her damaged brain.
Date: Friday, 16th October Time: 6.30pm Venue: LT13, FASS, NUS Meeting place: FC5, 5.15pm to mark attendence. Moving off at 5.45pm sharp. If late please go there yourself.

Overview
A 12-year-old girl named Akari gets a puppy and names it Socks. She loves Socks and spends practically every moment with him. She leaves socks with a childhood friend but eventually she's reminded of the promises she made to him as a child.
Hinokio is a 2005 Japanese science fiction film directed by Takahiko Akiyama and starring Masatoshi Nakamura, Kanata Hongo and Mikako Tabe. Its tagline is "Inter Galactic Love".
Overview
A recent accident has left Satoru Iwamoto, an elementary school student, temporarily wheelchair-ridden. In addition, the recent loss of his mother has thrown Satoru into a reclusive state, locking himself from the outside world. However, in an effort to help Satoru recover from his injuries, his father, Kaoru, has designed a remote-controlled robot that will go to school in his place and allow him to interact with people and do normal things.
The robot, "piloted" by Satoru from a large control terminal in his room, is nicknamed 'Hinokio' by his classmates. Hinokio is mostly admired by his fellow students, and they together start a generally normal year of school. But the story soon dwells more on Satoru, himself, as he rediscovers love and friendship through classmate Jun Kudo and also his own father.
Do fill up the above registration forms for the title you would like to watch. Places for each title are limited and are given on a first come first serve basis.
